Future of Malayalam Podcast

Hey, Hello, I'm Krish. "The Malayali Podcast" is hosted by me. My Podcast has reached 175k listeners in just two years, and I would like to thank all my listeners for their support. It would not have been possible for me without you. So from the bottom of my heart, I thank every one of you.

In July 2020, I began my podcasting journey. I changed my thinking after the pandemic. Being at home and doing nothing for long hours made me feel very low. So I decided to use my time productively by doing something I enjoy.

Since 2013, I have been listening to podcasts. At the time, they were mainly in English; I could scarcely find one in Malayalam. Then, a few started in the later years, all religious.

It was in 2016 that I discovered a Malayalam voice blog hosted by Mohanlal on SoundCloud, which is the first form of what we call a podcast today. As an IT professional, I was very excited and interested in learning the technology behind it. Unfortunately, the sound cloud was not flexible enough for beginners. So, I read a lot of blogs to understand them better and realized that most blogging platforms are paid. However, I gave it a shot but didn't get a positive response.

Three years ago, I listened to Garyvee talk about the growing opportunities for podcasters. According to him, podcasts are going to be the next big thing.

Is Podcasts the future?

People wonder how Malayalam podcasts will get a gig because of YouTube. The fun fact is that most Indians listen to music on YouTube, and TSeries is the most prominent example. Those unfamiliar with TSeries know that it is the world's most viewed music channel on YouTube. In 2019, Spotify launched its audio streaming service in India, changing the game dramatically. Because of this, we now have many streaming music apps, including Spotify, Gaana, Jio Saavn, Wynk, and Amazon Music. Two Years ago, Jio bought Saavn and launched a podcast, while Amazon also started streaming podcasts through their Amazon music app. Recently, Ganna started streaming podcasts and launched its first Malayalam podcast exclusive. More people are listening to podcasts as the podcast industry is growing. There will be a massive change in the Malayalam Podcast industry if they decide to make their content available in an audio format.

Most YouTubers in English and Hindi have podcasts in addition to YouTube, where they post trimmed content on YouTube and a complete range on Podcast. It isn't the same in Kerala. Here, the main emphasis is on generating more views, even at the expense of quality content! Despite knowing about podcasting, most people are still hesitant to make a change. People nowadays do not like watching videos for more than 10 minutes straight. However, recently we can see some Malayalm YouTubers start podcasting on Youtube. So that's a positive sign. This change will create a demand for podcasts in the future.

You can listen to podcasts according to your schedule. In addition, the Internet makes podcasts more user-friendly. Podcasting combines the freedom of blogging with the technology of audio. You can listen to a podcast on any podcasting application from your smartphone.

It is becoming increasingly common for people to listen to the radio for an extended time, either while travelling or at work. However, some prefer to listen to YouTube videos rather than watch them. That is why podcasts are so important. We can listen to them for 5 minutes or 3 hours, and podcasting is much more affordable than video creation. All you need is a good Mic, which is the only investment you will have to make.

If the number of listeners increases in the future, it will become more profitable than YouTube. Podcasters make more money than YouTubers in the US, Germany, UK, and Australia.

Twitter has officially entered the podcasting space. Latest test version of Twitter Spaces, you will be able to listen to full shows through curated playlists based on your interests. Last week in the US, a dedicated podcast page was launched on YouTube.

Podcasts are finally taking off. 2020-22 was the year of the long-awaited quantum leap, while 2023 will be the year of the podcast industry's revolution.

Future of Malayalam Podcast

Its very difficult to predict exactly what the future of podcasts will look like, but it is likely that podcasts will continue to grow in popularity and become an increasingly important part of the media landscape. Some possible trends that we could shape the future of podcasts include:

  1. Increased monetization: As the podcast industry matures, it is likely that more podcasters will find ways to monetize their shows through advertising, sponsorships, and other forms of revenue.
  2. More diverse content: The podcast market is already quite diverse, but it is likely that we will see even more niche and specialized shows in the future as the industry grows.
  3. Greater use of technology: Podcasts may make greater use of technology in the future, such as using artificial intelligence to transcribe and analyze episodes, or using virtual and augmented reality to enhance the listening experience.
  4. Increased competition: As the market for podcasts continues to develop, it is likely that we will see increased competition among podcasters for listeners and sponsors.

Overall, the future of podcasts looks bright, and it is an exciting time to be involved in this dynamic and growing industry.
